Sen. Clinton Predicted Housing Market Collapse

Dateline - Burbank, CA, April 3, 2008

But does she weigh as much as a duck? Speaking to reporters, Sen. Clinton today compared herself to legendary American folk hero Paul Revere in regards to the current economic downturn and subprime mortgage collapse. (link)

"Sometimes I feel like Paulette Revere: The recession is coming, the recession is coming. I hope someone will do something about this besides wring their hands, which is not in the best interest of our country," she explained amongst cheers from her assembled supporters, "As my husband, Bill, and all of my supporters can attest, I have been riding around Boston since last spring on my trusty steed, in many cases dodging Bosnian sniper fire to spread word of the impending British invasion...er, recession."

Coming just weeks after James Carville compared her to Jesus, and former Clinton ally Bill Richardson to Judas, Sen. Clinton took this opportunity to elaborate on other prophetic examples of her experience in Washington.

"You could say that I have been a modern-day Cassandra over the last 35 years," said Clinton, "I warned former President Carter against trying to free our hostages in Iran. I vehemently campaigned against lax regulation on savings and loans in the late 1980s, and I tried to evacuate people from Mt. Saint Helens in 1980. All of these, by the way, while dodging bullets from Bosnian snipers."

These comments did not go unrefuted by the other major campaigns.

"What the Clinton campaign seems to forget, and what many Americans may not know," responded McCain campaign chairman Robert Mosbacher, "Is that John McCain is a war hero. This is a man who served his time in the military behind the bars of a Vietnamese POW Camp. I have no doubt that should he have been freed during this time, that he too would have foreseen, in the best interest of patriotic Americans, the same pitfalls as Sen. Clinton. Let us never forget, John McCain is the only candidate who foresees the future of spending the next 100 years at war with Iraq, Iran, and anywhere terrorists may hide. That sober reality is something neither Clinton nor Obama can claim."

Obama campaign manager David Ploufe likewise had strong words for Clinton.

"While Sen. Clinton was riding horseback across her campaign stronghold in the Northeast, spreading her economic soothsaying to her paid lobbyists and financial backers, Barack Obama was travelling the country forging bipartisan bonds with all Americans. He was instilling a sort of prognosticatory hope in people who have been struggling to pay their mortgages while dealing with rising food and gas prices. If Hilary Clinton is Paul Revere, then Barack Obama is George Washington, fearlessly leading his armies across the Potomac to seize control of the government from the tyranny of old-age...only black. If not for being black, I'm sure Barack Obama would also have foreseen in his crystal ball these same pitfalls. Its high time we open the world of soothsaying to black Americans, and Barack Obama is the harbinger of that new age."
