Poland Petitions for Political Correctness at Auschwitz

Dateline Warsaw, Poland - July 13, 2006

Keeping with the polictially correct atmosphere that is bringing the world closer to Orwellian dystopia, the Polish government has petitioned the World Heritage Organization to rename the world's most famous WWII landmark, Auschwitz. In what Polish officials have said is an attempt to distinguish that the camp itself was not of Polish creation, they have asked for the camp to be renamed as "The Former Nazi German Concentration Camp of Auschwitz".

After a controversial vote of high ranking Polish officials, this name was chosen over more popular names as "Club Friendship", and "The Result of Fighting Armored Divisions with Horse-Mounted Cavalry".

"As citizens of Poland, we are tired of being associated with what went on at Auschwitz," said Hans Liepzieg a spokesman for the Auschwitz Historical Society, "I mean, not to say that there was anything inherently wrong with Nazis. Really, the Nazis were a peace-loving people, they just went about it in an unconventional manner. Further, who are we to condemn them as genocidal maniacs? But in the end, if people want to believe this, then we'd rather they realize that it was the dirty Germans over there who did this. Please, forget Poland."

In response, President George W. Bush remarked that, "while I firmly understand the reasoning behind this, there is one thing I wish to express to the citizens of the world: Do not misunderestimate the power of words, and don't forget Poland."

In the wake of this request, petitions were filed on behalf of numerous other organizations requesting similar name changes. Among them, the terrorist detention center at Gitmo will be renamed "The American Experience: Qur'an Watersports Live!", China's Cultural Revolution is to become "China's Golden Age of Enlightenment", and the Pacific Theatre of WWII as "Dude, Where's My A-Bomb".
