SKAT Accident Causes Mess on Main St.

Dateline Anacortes, WA - July 25, 2006

A SKAT (Skagit Transit) accident caused a messy tieup today, leaving trapped commuters feeling flushed. The accident occurred around 5:00pm, during the height of afternoon traffic.

Authorities believe the driver may have lost control of the SKAT right as it was exiting the Starlight Bowl parking lot and merging into traffic on Main. The SKAT then struck a light pole and slid across Main, leaving skid marks across both lanes.

Eyewitnesses to the accident said that there was a great screeching sound, and then they saw pieces of SKAT flying everywhere.

"It was amazing," said long-time resident, 57 year old Annabelle Thompson, who was riding the SKAT at the time of the accident, "I have never seen a SKAT do that before. I've taken the SKAT every day for the last 15 years, and its never seemed to just explode like that. There was SKAT debris all over, and even flying in my face! I can only thank God that I came through it alright."

Another eyewitness, George Parker, was watching from down the street.

"I wasn't but maybe half a block from the SKAT. I saw it hit the pole and start sliding, then I just smelled sulfur and burning rubber. I could tell right then that the SKAT, that this one was gonna be ugly. I just kinda turtled, well my head just kinda turtled up. Then I heard the SKAT pieces kinda spray around, and I looked back up."

Police on the scene were unable to discern what made the driver lose control of the SKAT.

"From what we've seen, there doesn't seem to be any reason why the driver should have lost control [of the SKAT]," Officer Heylook Poopjokes told reporters, "The road is dry and smooth, there are no slippery patches. The driver seems to indicate that the SKAT started sliding out, meaning the back wheels, and that he just couldn't hold it in anymore, and that's when it just slid all the way across the street."

As the old saying goes, SKAT happens.

For WNN this is, Getit Skatjokes reporting.
