Edwards Finds Black Female Celebrity Endorsement
Dateline - Columbia, SC December 10, 2007
Hoping to keep pace with front-runners Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama in his home state, Sen. John Edwards today announced the support of Phylicia Rashad, best known for her role as TV's Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show. Rashad now joins high-profile celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou, who have voiced their support for Obama and Clinton, respectively.
"This move shows just how important the African-American female vote will be in 2008," says WNN Political Analyst Dr. Pandering Mightily, "When Obama got Oprah to sign off, Clinton had to respond with Maya Angelou in order to show that she too has a highly-regarded African-American female supporter. Sen. Edwards then had to find the next-best well known African-American woman, and since Condolezza Rice was probably not on board, he went with Claire Huxtable."
"We believe that Phylicia embodies the spirit and determination of every African-American female voter, not just in South Carolina, but across the United States," said Edwards campaign organizer Albert Brown, "As Claire Huxtable, Phylicia was able to provide a strong role model, and show that it is possible for a young African-American woman to balance a family and a career. Her support of John Edwards for president in 2008, above all else, proves that Sen. Edwards can also garner the support of a famous African-American woman, just like Sens. Obama and Clinton."
Calls to Sen. Joe Biden's office went unreturned, neither confirming nor denying the rumor that he was in contact with the Quaker Oats Company to license Aunt Jemima's image for his campaign.
For WNN this is Token Blacksupport reporting.
